Senator Mark Begich gained a new committee spot this week. He’ll serve on the Senate Budget Committee, which drafts Congress’s annual budget plan and monitors action on the budget for the federal government.
This brings the number of committees Alaska’s junior senator sits on up to four. He’s also on Commerce, Armed Services, and Veterans Affairs. The spot on the Budget Committee became available recently when Democratic New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez decided to step down from the panel for the rest of the year.
